Around October 2016, the Australian Psychological Society surveyed 1,500 adults and adolescents about what influences their own sense of well-being and happiness (APS Inpsych Bulletin, December 2016). The three things that the majority of people believe make for a “good life” are Good Health/Peace of Mind, Family/Relationships, Wealth/Money.
Significantly, those people who were the most unhappy and not currently enjoying a "good life"; were people with high levels of social media use who then become prone to more frequent negative emotions and loneliness in their lives. Also four out of every 10 people surveyed said they rarely participated in relaxation or peace of mind activities. These people too experienced much lower levels of happiness and well-being.
To create more opportunities for people to learn about positive psychology tools for relaxation and increased peace of mind, we created our Wellness in the Wilderness retreat day It is valuable not only by showing people everyday tools to be happier, it is also hosted in a pristine natural location to rejuvenate the human spirit.
More time in nature is one step in the right direction, as is the second step of eating the best natural foods and knowing the difference it makes to your mental, physical & emotional energy patterns. This is why we employ a full-time nutritionist as a key part of our psychology team.
