Peter Doyle founded the Guidelight Psychology practice in Southport in 1994. You can find out more about the history of Guidelight and Peter below as well as the meaning behind the name. But first we want to share our mission with you.

Guidelight Psychology - Our Mission

At Guidelight Psychology we are champions of the tools of positive psychology, and hold to the principle that each person will best develop their potential in an environment of empathy, compassion and respect.

We model ourselves on the belief that each person matters therefore we always strive to deliver outstanding results for our clients based on our core values of integrity, commitment and balance.

The Guidelight Message

The message behind our name Guidelight?

The term guide and light are symbolically combined to create the image of a lighthouse.

Metaphorically, we aim to equip our clients with a beacon or light which shines brightly in the darkness and allows them to see the way forward, much like lighthouses have done for sailors for centuries.

With guidance and a visible path a person is better able to navigate the changing winds and conditions of life. This light in the darkness represents enlightened self management and personal well being.

The lighthouse is also a symbol that is substantial, solidly guarded and reliable.

Guidelight will weather the tough times and stormy cycles of life with you and stand strong and true to support our clients. We have stood the test of time through being resolute and dependable with the quality of our services and advice to people in need.

Our valued reputation for trustworthiness and expertise has been enduring and hard earned over the past 15 years. Our longevity of service in reliably helping thousands of satisfied clients over this period is testimony to the strength of our integrity and commitment to assisting you.

Guidelight Psychology History

Peter Doyle founded the Guidelight Psychology practice in Southport in 1994.

Prior to that Peter was an Academic Psychology Lecturer at Griffith University on the Gold Coast.  He spent several years teaching and researching within the Department of Applied Psychology, which was a part of the Faculty of Business and Management.

His focus was applying social psychological theory to effective people and management practice. Prior to that Peter was a staff Psychologist with the Queensland Corrective Services Commission where he counselled and debriefed operational staff and also designed and delivered training and professional development modules and complex behavioural change programs.

Guidelight Psychology has grown to become a leading boutique firm of experienced senior psychologists. Our skilled professional staff have assisted thousands of clients with solutions to gain sustained results across all types of people problems. We have a track record of accomplishment as trainers,  facilitators and inspirational coaches for the improved health, vitality and well being of our diverse range of clients. Our combined professional and academic reputation for enhancing the well being and performance of individual people and workplace groups has been outstanding for more than twenty years.

Peter Doyle, our founder, has the additional practical expertise of having built several businesses from the conceptual level to profitable enterprises, based on outstanding service delivery to clients.  For example we continue to offer a 24 hour after hours on call access for all our psychology clients, (as required based on individual need), that has operated uninterrupted for the past 16 years.

In addition to his professional work, Peter Doyle has a reputation as an innovative community leader and contributor to psychology.

His commitment to delivering leading edge people performance solutions was evidenced in 2002 when Guidelight created the inaugural Inspiring Business Leadership Forum held on the Gold Coast.

In collaboration with Griffith University Graduate School of Management, the Australian Institute of Management and Griffith University School of Applied Psychology, this forum drew keynote presenters from the US and Australia to the region where local business leaders grappled with the issues of building healthier workplaces for people of all walks of life.
